NEWS: Practical Impact 2010 Conference - 15 February 2010
RESOURCE: NEW MANAGING CHURCH BUILDING TOOLKIT - 02 December 2009
Hereford Diocese have designed an on-line Toolkit to help churches make the most of their church building for wider community use.  It covers topics such as community audits, planning process, funding tips and managing building projects.  For more details, please click here.
EVENTS: Making more community use of your church building - 29 September 2009
"Crossing the Threshold" conference is being held in Hereford on Thursday 19th November.  There will be a toolkit and DVD launched at the event to help churches make more community use of their building.  Cost is £40.  For more details and a booking form - click here.  This is being run by Hereford Diocese in partnership wtih CUF, English Heritage, Herefordshire Council and National Lottery.
Funding: J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust - 16 September 2009
The J Paul Getty Jnr Charitable Trust has now reopened for new applications. Capital or revenue grants of up to £250,000 over 1 to 3 years are available to registered charities in England with a focus on social welfare or arts & heritage. See the Trust's website for more details.
Funding: Lloyds TSB Foundation Young Offenders Programme - 17 August 2009
The Lloyds TSB Foundation Young Offenders Programme will provide £1 million funding to charities that are improving the life choices and chances of young offenders in England and Wales. The Programme is open to registered charities of any size with a proven track record of working with young offenders.
There is a two stage application process with an initial application deadline of 25 September.
Funding: Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation - 07 August 2009
The Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation focusses on education and welfare and the relief of poverty through alleviating homelessness. Grants from a few hundred to several thousand pounds are available to organisations working in the UK. Grants are awarded quarterly and the next application deadline for the September round is 1 September.
NEWS: MEASURING IMPACT IN CHILDREN'S LIVES - 07 August 2009
New Philanthropy Capital (in partnership with Children's Society) has published a report, Feelings Count, with early findings from a pilot questionnaire which aims to measure improvements in 11 to 16 year old children's subjective well-being. The final questionnaire will be launched as part of a 'well-being toolkit' in October 2009. For more details click here.
FUNDING: Reducing Reoffending Fund - 31 July 2009
Impetus Trust have announced the launch of a Reducing Reoffending Fund.  £1.3 million is available over a 3-4 year period for around 3-6 charities that have a high impact on re-offending.  Selected organisations will receive a combined package of unrestricted funding and tailored capacity building support.  This is a collaboration between Impetus Trust, Indigo Trust, the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation and the Henry Smith Charity.  More details here.
Funding: Youth Music - 14 July 2009
The Youth Music Open Programme has been launched for organisations wishing to apply for grants of £5,000 to £30,000. Organisations than have been running for at least one year and that work with under 19s or young people aged up to 25 who are in detention, have special educational needs or have disabilities are eligible to apply. Grants are for projects of 6 to 24 months that involve music making and primarily take place outside of curriculum time. The first application deadline is 10 August with further deadlines of 10 November, 10 February 2010 and 10 May 2010.
NEWS: EVANGELISTIC CHARITY PASSES PUBLIC BENEFIT TEST - 14 July 2009
Church Mission Society, along with 3 other religious charities (United Christian Broadcasters, London Sri Murugan Temple and Tara Mahayana Buddhist Centre), passed the new public benefit assessment by the Charity Commission.  The Rev Canon Tim Dakin, general secretary of CMS, said the verdict was good news for all churches and organisations engaged in evangelism.  "It is an encouragement to people concerned about the possible erosion of freedom for Christian witness in this country," he said.

RESOURCE: FREE BUSINESS MENTORING FOR CHARITIES IN LONDON - 14 July 2009
Pilotlight is set up to address the need of small charities and social enterprises who have expertise to address the needs of their beneficiaries but do not have, and could not afford to buy, the time and skills to develop their own infrastructure.  Pilotlight does this by managing teams of senior business people to coach charities through the process of building measurably more sustainable and efficient organisations.  This is offered free of charge.
NEWS: COMMUNITYBUILDERS FUND FINALISED - 13 July 2009

Communitybuilders is a £70 million programme that will strengthen multi-purpose, community-led organisations working at local level (known as community anchors) - e.g. community centres, multi-purpose settlements and development trusts.  This will benefit around 300 organisations across England and will provide a mix of grants, mentoring and loans.  This is run by a consortium led by Adventure Capital Fund.  For more details, click here.

Funding: Community Cashback - 10 July 2009
Community Cashback has launched to redistribute £95,000 of recovered criminal assets in each of 42 areas covering the whole of England and Wales. Applications should be for projects in one or several neighbourhoods that are related to nuisance, anti-social or criminal behaviour or its impact on the community. Details of applications that meet criteria will be placed on the internet from September for the public to comment before funding decisions are made. Deadlines and specific criteria may vary according to the area.
Funding: Yorkshire Bank 150th Community Awards - 10 July 2009
To mark its 150th anniversary, Yorkshire Bank has launched the 150th Community Awards. There will be one grant of £20,000, three of £10,000 and several smaller awards bringing the total to £150,000 for projects working in one of four fields: environment, volunteering, education, regeneration. Registered charities, community organisations and constituted voluntary groups benefitting communities in the North of England and the Midlands are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is 16 August.
RESOURCE: Churches and Faith Buildings: Realising the Potential - 07 July 2009

The Government and the Church of England have recently published Churches and Faith Buildings: Realising the Potential.  This identifies funding and support for faith groups that will enable them to adapt their buildings for community use and build on their capacity to engage at local and regional level.
