Close House is a cafe drop-in centre designed by and created for young people aged 13-25. Open four days each week we are open for all youngsters in the relevant age group. In addition we also run several closed sessions, one for young people with mental health issues, one for young people in the aftercare (looked after) system and one for young people with an interest in music.
Operating in a locality that has seen the closure of all its statutory service youth clubs Close House is the only facility of its kind. We are based in Hereford City Centre and are therefore readily accessible to young people living within Hereford City and into the rural area of Herefordshire. We are linked to all the main bus and rail routes into the city and within easy walking distance of the main colleges and seconday schools in Hereford.
We work closely with city churches and our project is supported by Anglican, Catholic and Free Churches. The work of Close House is endorsed by the Anglican Dicoese and Churches Together. In particular we are entering into a partnership agreement with St Peters Church (our landlords), whereby a reordered St Peters will engage Close House to lead Community Development working within the St Peters facilities. These plans include an expansion of the space available for youthwork, the creation of a family centre and an extension of work into educational and therapeutic opportunities for those who are least able to access these services. The plans also incorporate the creation of a social enterprise cafe within St peters Church, serving locally sourced healthy food and incorporating training opportunities for youngsters. The infrastructure also plans to reduce the acrbon footprint of the Church through the use of a greener woodchip fuel source and the use of recycled rainwater.
