Sycamore Counselling Service is a charity offering
counselling to the community of Nuneaton,
Bedworth and the surrounding areas.
We are based in the centre of Nuneaton and offer:
- One
to one counselling for adults
- One
to one counselling for children and young people
- Specialised
bereavement support service for children and young people
- Group
work in secondary schools for bereaved children
- Bereavement workshops for school
staff
- Play Therapy in four local primary
schools
- Outreach in Camp Hill and Bedworth
Heath
- Training workshops
- External supervision
- Involvement in numerous working
parties focusing on the priories for Nuneaton
and Bedworth
We have been running a project in Camp Hill, one of the top
10 % most deprived areas in the country, since 2004. Camp Hill is the subject
of a large regeneration project aimed at improving the quality of the lives of
its residents. The regeneration started in 2000 and is presently in its third
stage which entails demolishing 640 local homes. Initially we offered 2 sessions
a week which quickly increased to 4 sessions and recently has increased again
to six. We operate on an outreach basis within the Family Centre on Ramsden Avenue.
Our aims are:
- To provide a local counselling
service within the Camp Hill area to the community on a weekly basis
- To enable the residents of the
area to work through their personal issues affecting their lives.
- To continue to promote positive
life skills in an area acknowledged as one of the most severely deprived in
Warwickshire.
- To continue to work with local
agencies to address the needs of the community.
- To support local residents who are
experiencing the migration of a large proportion of the community which can be
distressing for people who have lived there for most of their lives.
