The Advanced Toolbar
Normally, for just adding words etc. you will use the Quick editor, but there is an option to Switch to Advanced Editor which opens a toolbar which looks like this...

the advanced toolbar
Briefly the icons do lots of clever stuff - a lot of which you will never want, or need, to use but they are there because we use them in making some pages. Most of them are 'standard' ones that we're mostly used to from using programs like MS Word. However, there's a few which I'd like to draw your attention to. The icons are listed by row, then number, so 1:1 means row 1, number 1 etc.

1:1. The first icon on the top row will open a much larger editing window so you can see more stuff on screen at any one time. However, the important thing with this is that you need to click it again to return to a smaller preview window in order to Create/Publish your page when you're done.
1:2. The second icon on the top row is for previewing your page at different screen resolutions (sizes) It may look great on your huge expensive flat panel, but will it still look great on someone's very old small screen?

1:13 Create a link. If you want to create a link to an external website - maybe your own site - you need to type in some text to use as your link, then highlight it, then click the Hyperlink icon. In the box Source: you will usually tyoe http:// for a website or mailto: for an email link, then in the right hand box you type the web address you wish to link to, or the email address you wish to send to.

1:14 The image icon. Important notes about images may be found here

1:19 If you want to create tables within your page

1:22 If you want to insert an special characters in your page (eg. ©)

2:2 - end You can do a lot of text formatting ot use different fonts, colours boldness etc. but the one thing people often comment on is the selection of fonts available. A brief explanation would be that when a person views a web page that page tells their computer which fonts to use to display it, but their computer can only display those fonts if it has them installed. The selection of fonts available is therefore the ones that come pre-installed on the vast majority of computers so people viewing your pages will see them as you intended.
