Involving service users in evaluation

This course covers how to consult and involve service users effectively in monitoring and evaluation.
Participants look at why they should involve users, who their users are and what their organisation needs to consider before starting to involve users.  Participants will have the opportunity to explore the different levels of user involvement in evaluation, from feedback, to consultation and beyond.  Participants also discuss good practice around user involvement as well as the possible barriers to and benefits of involving service users in evaluation.
Is this course for you?
You will benefit most from this course if you:
  • are planning to engage users in various aspects of monitoring and evaluating  your services
  • have a basic understanding of monitoring and evaluation (this is desirable but not essential).
Course aims
By the end of the course participants will:
  • be aware of some of the benefits of increasing user involvement in evaluation
  • be aware of some of the barriers to increasing user involvement in evaluation and ways around these
  • recognise the different levels of user involvement in evaluation
  • have gained practical knowledge and ideas about how to increase the involvement of users in evaluation.
