The Employment and Training Xchange is made up of faith-based projects working in
the poorest areas of Newcastle. The group has emerged out of the work of employment projects working with
Worth Unlimited
"Government can’t take risks – but they can back faith groups who can take risks... Our projects are in a tough part of town. Our emphasis is on valuing young people. Integrity is vital. We work with people who have chaotic lives. Access is very hard to achieve. Living in the community being a stabilising force is key. The stabilising environment is where you live..."
The findings from the first Employment and Training Xchange Group discussion on
faith-based employment and training projects and the Public Sector are now available to

What is an Xchange Group?
Xchange groups are made up of up to 12 practitioners involved in
faith-based projects. Xchange groups meet 3 to 4 times annually. Find

The methodology refers to a Grounded Theory approach, with use of open
questions to generate discussion. Attendees used flip chart paper to
document specific comments and notes were taken of the discussion. From
the research data comments were clustered manually around specific
themes and presented under appropriate headings. Attendees were able to
comment on draft findings circulated prior to publication.
